Call: Biden, Scholz, Macron, Sunak, Meloni… We say NO to your wars!

At the initiative of the European Liaison Committee against the War, which met on May 4, 2024, with delegates from 16 countries:

CALL

It’s not when war kills 1,000 soldiers a day, when freedoms are suppressed by censorship and martial law that we can fight war, it’s before, when we can still organize, demonstrate. THIS TIME, THEY HAVE TO BE PREVENTED FIRST!

Biden, Scholz, Macron, Sunak, Meloni…
We say NO to your wars!

You are responsible for massacres and wars.

On April 24, the U.S. Congress voted $95 billion for the war in Ukraine, to deliver weapons to Netanyahu’s army and the reinforcement of military deployment against China. The response was given by a tremendous wave of student mobilization, starting at Columbia University (New York), taking up the slogan: “Genocide Joe. You can’t hide. How many kids have you killed today”.

More than 100,000 Palestinians have been killed, maimed, or missing. Hundreds of thousands of children are starving, deprived of health care and school, many now orphans, traumatized by the extent of the bombings and destruction perpetrated by B. Netanyahu’s army.

Heads of state and government, starting with the United States, followed by the European Union, are responsible for what the International Court of Justice has described as a probable genocide and which millions of horrified people witness every day. Governments participate in the crushing of the Palestinian people by organizing the delivery of weapons and military components to Israel and by maintaining trade agreements with the state that kills and destroys all forms of civilization in the Gaza strip.

Despite the inaction, or even the silence, of the summits of the labor movement, protests and powerful mobilizations are spreading in all countries, on all continents, including Israel, in defense of the Palestinian people and their rights.

The governments and the European Union that have allowed and continue to support this genocide (described as such even by the Pope) are now trying to temper their rhetoric, frightened by the consequences of their policies in Palestine and in their own countries.

Governments now want to engage us further in the war in Ukraine, sending troops and plunging us into a conflict between nuclear powers. The same people who sold us the European Union as an area of peace are now preparing for war.

The German labor movement against the war demanded “butter instead of cannons”. But many governments as well as the EU are calling for a war economy, which means a general attack on the social gains, democratic freedoms, and public services that workers‘ struggles have imposed in every country. As long as the labor movement’s summits support the warlike orientation of the ruling elites in Europe, they will not be able to prevent the destruction of these workers‘ conquests.

On both sides of the Russian-Ukrainian border, young people are being caught in the streets, in cities and in the countryside, to be sent by force to the front and to their death. When Putin enlisted 300,000 new soldiers, Zelensky lowered the age of conscription by two years. And this to serve as cannon fodder in the service of multinationals and oligarchs of all sides. We refuse to allow this war to spread. We want it to stop immediately.

Faced with all the warmongering governments, which hypocritically claim to defend peace and democracy while dismantling social and democratic achievements everywhere, refuse negotiations and ceasefires, continue to deliver weapons, we stand with the young Ukrainians and Russians who can no longer stand the war, with the workers and young people who refuse war and oppression, and demand a ceasefire, the lifting of the blockade of Gaza and the satisfaction of social and political demands.

We say: not in our name!

  • We refuse wars and barbarism, which only benefit the powerful and the arms manufacturers whose profits are exploding.
  • We refuse, for ourselves, for our children, for our grandchildren, to be dragged into war and the militarization of the whole society.
  • We refuse the ever-increasing military budgets under the supervision of NATO and the European Union; we denounce the social war waged against workers and youth.
  • We refuse all attacks on freedoms, threats, and repression. We defend freedom of expression, assembly, demonstration, and the right to strike, which are particularly threatened.

The mobilization of the people will be able to block the deadly escalation into which the governments want to drag us and stop the arms deliveries.

By coming together across borders, we are acting for the international unity of workers and youth to im-pose the ceasefire and the reallocation of military budgets to the vital needs of the population, schools, hospitals, salaries, and pensions.

  • Stop the massacre of the Palestinian people!
  • In Palestine as in Ukraine, immediate ceasefire!
  • Stop arms deliveries!
  • No to any NATO military intervention in Ukraine!
