I come from Italian-speaking Switzerland. I’m a member of Forum Alternativo, a small group, and I am a regional MP. From the start, our position has been „No Putin, no NATO“. This is of particular relevance in Switzerland because our defence minister is moving ever closer to NATO. The latest step has been to get together with Austria and Germany on an air defence system. He also wants Switzerland to take part in NATO manoeuvres. Up to now, Switzerland has taken part in peace missions in partnership with NATO. The Social Democratic Party has now put on its helmet and our government is going to deliver tanks. Leopard tanks have been sent to Ukraine. Normally we cannot deliver already-used weapons to countries in conflict. In 1945, on weekdays, Switzerland supplied arms to the Nazis and prayed for peace on weekends. The Swiss government is not prepared to liberalise the conditions for exporting its weapons, but we don’t know if that will last. Switzerland is neutral when it pays to be neutral but gives up neutrality when it thinks it can get closer to the USA. Switzerland officially declares itself neutral, but since the end of the Second World War it has clearly been part of the pro-American alliance.
